Getting back into vinyl records, did not want to sink a lot of money in a system. Also looked at the Audio Technica AT-LP120-USB. Not a lot of difference for the $100 more. Maurice Aug 11, 2018 After an EXCELLENT experience with my adviser Manny to find great speakers, I emailed him to help me choose a turntable, based on my budget and the specific features hubby wanted: the ability to adjust playing speed and also convert my old albums to digital files using our laptops (Windows and Mac). He emailed me back the same day with the Music Hall USB-1 and even placed it in my cart for me if I chose to purchase it. My husband is excited that he will be able to listen to his old albums again!
Kristin P Jul 20, 2018 The Music Hall USB-1 was recommended by Jenna Miles in her book 'The Beginner's Guide to Vinyl'. A very helpful book. Maren Jul 10, 2018 friend has system Dan Jun 10, 2018 I wanted a belt drive, with strobe and ability to manage the pressure on the stylus.
This met all my needs. I hope I can enjoy it as I did my tables back in the 80's John May 26, 2018 Most of the USB capable turntables in this pricerange or below look low/poor quality. Music Hall's USB-1, however looks far more superior and a good investment. I was also considering an ION Mustang turntable which style is extremely appealing, however after reading some reviews and zooming in on the pics. It seems the main guts/turntable is identical to the cheap victrolas - other entry level brands I'm seeing out there.

Carl Aug 04, 2017 reviews and built in preamp robert Jun 10, 2017 value harrison May 03, 2017 I was looking for an entry level turntable that was not too expensive or overly complicated. I did not use the installed preamp, I purchased an external from Amazon for $30 and the music reproduction is fantastic!!! The only issue I have come across is that if you walk right next to it while playing it may skip.
I intend on correcting this with some vibration dampening materials under both the feet of the USB-1 and the table it is on. All in all this is a good turntable. Thomas May 01, 2017 Great review and the price with discount is just right for my budget. No it is not. Rick Apr 24, 2018 no Ted Apr 23, 2018 NO. However if you look at the large picture you will find a small lever that allows you to first move the stylus over any where over the record and using the lever carefully lower the stylus.
I find this OK and I like the performance of the turntable. When the end of the record is attained the stylus remains stopped and the lever must be used to lift the stylus and then the stylus can be moved back to it's original position. ROBERT Apr 23, 2018 Nope.
Very easy to use, however. Roger Apr 23, 2018 No. You have to manually return the arm at the end of the last track. TERRY Apr 23, 2018 No. You must raise (and lower) the arm manually either directly with your finger, or using a small lever at the base of the arm. No problem; works great.
Apr 23, 2018. You need a phono preamp and connect it to aux. Input to use a phono. Robert Apr 12, 2018 great question, but i cannot answer it because i do not have Sonos. Daniel Apr 12, 2018 I do not own a Sonos Play 5, but I would expect that the Music Hall USB-1 audio out can plug directly into the line in of Sonos speaker.
The turntable does have a pre-amp, so the signal should certainly drive the line in input. The speaker then has its own main amp. Just need the right cable adapter. Robert Apr 12, 2018. There are no stupid questions. Yes, you will need speakers and a receiver, and the receiver will need to have a phono input.
BTW, I am very happy with this turntable and would buy it again. devin Dec 16, 2017 yes -you need a pair of speakers Donald Dec 15, 2017 Hello Meg, no this is not a stupid question but the system needs to be played through an amplifier with speakers. Using a Yamaha amplifier for my system with this turntable has been the most effective and best sounding system for me so far.
Please don't hesitate to ask any other questions of me Enter an answer to this question. James Dec 15, 2017 Not stupid at all! Yes, it does need speakers.
Most things have speakers built in anymore, but turntables do not. Think of them like a receiver. You have to have speakers to listen to that, too. Susan Dec 15, 2017 Receiver and speakers required. This is a great turntable Michael Dec 15, 2017 You do need speakers. Enter Bradley Dec 15, 2017 I would suggest you CHAT with someone at Crutchfield. I do have this turntable and it is connected to a stereo receiver which has speakers.
The turntable it's self does not have an internal speaker. I see Crutchfield does sell this turntable with additional speakers: But, it think you should CHAT with them 1st. Richard Dec 15, 2017. Hi, Jamie- Interesting question. In my own case I put my audio into the computer as I do iTunes, then burn discs for replay on other devices. Maybe you need to process the audio in this manner, then transfer from your computer to your thumb drive. In any case, I'll try that too with my thumb drives!
Have fun, Brian in Denver. Brian Sep 11, 2016 No, since it is a USB cable that transfers the recording. James Sep 10, 2016 There are outputs for Phono/RCA out and USB cable out. There is no place to plug in a USB thumb drive. Kelsaw Sep 10, 2016. If you purchased the product from Crutchfield, feel free to contact our Tech Support team. Yes it's fullly manual, u do have to left tonearm back, also u have to left tonearm and sit it on record hope this helps LAWRENCE E May 05, 2016 Yes, it is fully manual.
You physically have to bring the tonearm back. It is an annoyance, but the high quality of the turntable more than makes up for it. Apr 29, 2016 100% manual, you have to physically return the tonearm to its holder. The sound it produces makes it worth the extra effort.

The turntable also has an ON/THRU switch that lets you choose whether or not to use the built-in pre-amp, depending on your amplifier situation. Laura May 19, 2015 I don't see why not. The NAD has analog inputs, and this table has a built in phono pre-amp so there should be no problem using one of the analog inputs.
I did not dig deep enough into the NAD to see if it also had a phono pre-amp so that also may be an option. That said, you are pairing what was a $3K integrated amp with a $250 TT. At a minimum, I would think you would want to upgrade the included phono cartridge to something higher in quality. BRIAN May 10, 2015.
Mar 08, 2015 includes a pre-mounted Audio Technica AT3600L phono cartridge it is replaceable! MARK S Mar 08, 2015 Thanks very much!
Mar 07, 2015 It comes with a Audio Technica AT3600L. It is a standard mount cartridge and is replaceable. BRIAN Mar 07, 2015 The cartridge has no Manufacturer name or Part # on it. The whole cartridge assembly detaches from the arm by unscrewing the silver collar and unplugging from the arm.
I imagine it is replaceable but you would need to contact Music hall to confirm. DR E D M Mar 07, 2015. Am using this solely to rip vinyl to mp3. John Nov 07, 2014 That little pre-amp by Teac would go directly to the speakers and the sound would be awesome! If your not blown away they will take it back I'm sure the are a great place to buy from.good luck.james JAMES M Nov 05, 2014 I am no Audio expert but there is no preAmp on this model. I connect directly to my computer using the USB lead and play using Window Media Player or record using Audacity software or I can connect to my old Sanyo amplifier and speakers. DR E D M Nov 04, 2014.
I have no clue about a NAD usb phono preamp! GUNTHER G Mar 30, 2014 I'm sure you know the functionality of the Music Hall USB-1; therefore, your equipment (i.e., receiver or computer) will ultimately determine the final sound of any phonograph record. The unit is outstanding and should be paired with a quality system. ROBERT T Mar 14, 2014 Sorry, but I have not used the internal phono preamp, nor the USB output. We have have the table connected via the phono output to an old school stereo receiver that has its own phono input. As such, I can't really comment on how the internal pre would compare to a low cost external preamp.
That said, I would not expect a significant difference, but that is just speculation on my part. While the construction of the table is certainly not top of the line, it is suitable for its intended purpose (my daughter's first TT). I would think the weak link would be included cartridge. BRIAN Mar 06, 2014 I can't answer that exact question, but.
My son has this a college and is using Bose Companion III powered speakers. All I can say is this setup sounds great. For the price, I think this would be the entry point for a quality turntable.other cheaper ones we looked at were not even close to this quality. MARK S Mar 06, 2014. If only WAV files, there are a number of software tools that can change the format to various formats.
Charles Jan 16, 2018 Thanks you. The tuner USB-1 it funny, I like. JOSE D Dec 14, 2013 Hi Rick, You can format in wave, too. You can use the Nero software or Windows Media Player. Give it a try! ROBERT T Dec 13, 2013 Sorry, I can't answer that.
BERTRAM F Dec 11, 2013 The supplied software, Audacity, will allow you to save your files in several different format, and WAV is one of them. When you transfer the audio from the turntable to the PC, it will be in be in.AUP format (proprietary), but you can quickly export it to the format of your choice. BILL Dec 11, 2013 So far the turntable is playing vinyl through a pair of Bose Companion II speakers (sounds GREAT!).not yet used for converting. In my past experience with an Ion turntable, most conversion software produces a.wav file natively.then converts to MP3. This would be a software issue, so check the manual on the software you are using to see what your options are for conversion. MARK S Dec 11, 2013 Unfortunately, I can't say for sure.
The TT is a Christmas gift and has not yet been opened. I did look at the product manual, and it is somewhat ambiguous on the subject. The USB output is specified as 16BIT 44.1KHz or 48KHz USB SELECTABLE. That would imply Wave files, but w/o trying it, I am not certain. I suspect the output is Wave, which can then be converted within Audacity if you wanted to, but I think your best bet may be an email or a call to Music Hall.
