Best IMac configuration for graphic design? I am a graphic design student. I am currently working on Photoshop, Illustrator, Muse, and InDesign. I work on InDesign and Muse for the bulk of my work and am wondering which iMac will be the best for my work now but also what will carry me through the next few years. Asked by fn from Morristown.
So, I’m getting a 15 inch MacBook Pro about to go fully into production on a long graphic novel. Heavily using the Adobe Suite and jazz The laptop specifications are very confusing to me however. I want to get top quality, but a lot of findings online state that certain aspects are unnecessary and do not change user interface whatsoever. So it’s wasting money etc My current questions about what would be the best levels of these to choose for the computer: GHZ Dual Core vs Quad Core Onboard Memory GB or TB SSD. I'm a big Adobe nerd, although with an iMac. (Photoshop, Illustrator, AfterEffects, and a Cintiq). I go full spec because I run these machines as long as possible and I'm lazy, but I bet that's complete overkill for your needs.
Photoshop and Illustrator performance on my early-2010 iMac isn't that much different than with my mid-2017 iMac, and that's comparing CS5 against CC as well. Only sizeable performance upgrade between these machines is the video and audio stuff. My recommendation is get the biggest SSD and most RAM as you can afford. If you’re going with the 15” you won’t have the option of a dual core processor, I would recommend the following configuration:.
2.9 ghz i7 Processor. 16 gb of Ram (don’t even consider less than this). 1 TB SSD (I have 512 and it’s plenty, so this is subjective to your storage requirements and if you don’t mind using external drives). That will keep you running smooth for years to come.
You could also wait a few months and see what happens with the refreshed specs for the MacBook pros in mid summer, if you can hold off.
